For those of you that didn’t think George Lucas was just out for your money and doesn’t really give much of a damn about his fans or the Star Wars movies, this little nugget came out to help change your mind.
DVDs to be made from the old Laserdiscs
Both links really point to the same topic on different sites. Lucas refuses to use anything except the laserdiscs that are already out there to make the new DVDs of the Original Unaltered Star Wars trilogy. Which means that what you will get is really no better than the copies that fans have already made and put out on the internet, because they aren’t even going to digitally clean them up or anything. So if you already happened to have downloaded the laserdisc versions off of the net, just hold your middle finger up in the air in the direction of Skywalker ranch. You might even throw a crotch grab in there too.
Seriously, almost anyone that cares has heard the Lucas quote about how the originals don’t even exist anymore in his eyes. About how the enhanced versions are his “true vision”, despite the fact that several of his changes could have been done when the originals were made he just didn’t want it that way then. Does he really have to screw up everything about them though? You can’t buy them by themselves. You can only get them when you buy the enhanced versions (again). The least they could have done is went out and found a decent source for them to encode on the DVDs. These things will last forever now. You get them in digital form once and that is the form that will be around in the future. Put some damn pride into it. Don’t spit on all the money you have because of these three ORIGINAL films or the fact that people loved them so much they gave you money for the inferior and in some cases plain shitty “Prequels”.
I also don’t like the tone from one of the offical emails from ILM, which says that the effects in the first movies aren’t as cutting edge as in the new ones. You know what? I am going to call bullshit on that. The first movies used physical objects and crazy insane rigging and technology to create some of the scenes. Perhaps those effects don’t look as “clean” as the ones used in todays movies, but when you boil the effects from the newer movies down, all they did was build wireframes in a computer and then tell the thing to render. To me that is far less cool AND looks far less real in the movies to me.
George Lucas? Who the hell is he?!
You know the guy that made all the star wars movies? Did you suffer a blow to the head recently? 🙂
I was being sarcastic, d00d. Jeezus…
The point I was trying to make was that we should just ignore Lucas. Really, the only SW movies worth a damn were 4/5.
Your comments were not validated W3C with proper sarcasim tags and thus I could not properly process the resulting page. Sorry, next time please try to stick with my supported code. 🙂
uh…. you’re like one of the Star Trek dweebs that Conan makes fun of on his show.
In a real nasal voice he says,”That’s not ‘REAL’ Vulcan language your speaking, I know real vulcan!”
I realize it’s on too late for you to watch, but that’s what it sounds like to me.
My point is more about how Lucas is being a real dick to the people that made him the person he is.
Just because they liked the movies is made originally and not the story changes he made in the 90’s is not a reason to just walk out and pull his pants down and crap on them.
I work on a few different projects here n there, i know for a fact that there will be a re release of all movies in 3d. My guess would be not to intimidate the fans with endless recuts and re releases. ILM are still settling on the patent for their 3d technology.
