Original thread from my old forums
Not really being a republican, democrate, libertarian, or even a librarian., I found it odd that I would empathize with Rush on his most recent newsworthy issue. I wasn’t sure why at first and then I thought about it for a bit and I think I came up with the reason.
First, for those that don’t know Rush apparently said that Donavan McNabb, the quarterback for the Eagles, was over rated as a quaterback because he was black. Now he has been released from ESPN and a bunch of people are crying racism against him and all that.
Let me tell you another story. Out on the playground at an elementary school in Indiana there are a bunch of kids playing Wiffleball for Gym class. One of the cool kids strikes out and while he is up at the plate says, “Son of a bitch.” When the teacher asks him what he said he states that he said, “Son of a beach.” and the teacher lets him off and he goes back into line. From then on all the “Cool Kids” are in line saying and even yelling, “Son of a beach, Son of a Beach, Son of a beach……” This gets fairly annoying to some of the other kids and in an effort to make the cool kids feel stupid one of the other kids turns around from his place in line and says, “Y’know I didn’t know beaches could have sons.” The gym teacher storms over from his place in a chair and grabs the non-cool kid by the shoulder and drags him out of line and yells at him for using langauge like that and how it is disrepectful and all this other stuff. Completely ignoring the fact that the kid wasn’t even using it in the context of a curse word. He was just trying to show the “cool kids” how stupid they sounded. Well the non-cool kid had to spend the next recess up against the wall, while nothing happened to the kids that were actually using it as a form of cussing. Of course the non-cool kid in that situation was me.
So that I think is why I relate a little to Rush here. Suppose that McNabb is over rated. Then if Rush is correct he is just telling people to stop being racist. He isn’t being racist. Obviously Rush thinks McNabb isn’t as good as his rating. He didn’t say that he thinks that because McNabb is black. He said that he thinks he is rated too high because he is black. That isn’t being racist, that is telling other people to stop being racist. Raising someone above other people because they are black is as racist as lowering someone compared to others because they are black. It related strongly to me trying to tell the group of fools that they were acting like idiots and getting yelled at for it in my mind.
I doubt Rush is any more racist than any other mildly rich white guy, instead I think the media needs a story and he is it.
