Hello, hello:
After what happened to me on Sunday, I thought it would be a good time to start my semi-occasional email about what’s going on with me. It’s a long email so you might want to grab a cup of coffee or save it for later. Here’s my relaxing Sunday:
When life gets crazy and that happens about once a week, I like to take a stroll in the woods for a couple miles to unwind. Sometimes I jog but lately I’ve been walking. I wanted to try something new so I decided to walk around the Falls Lake Park. I’ve heard it’s nice so I hopped in the car and away I go. I pulled off at the Falls River Dam, checked out the sign which outlined a walking path about 3.5 miles. I threw my cell and my wallet in the car and away I go. I didn’t find the specific path on the map but I did see trees along the path marked with a white dot. It was very quiet and had some nice scenery. I’m not sure how long I walked before I started to worry about when I would reach the end. I kept telling myself to suck it up and that I would reach my car in no time. It had been cloudy and rainy all day but I kept thinking my car would be just around the corner. I noticed that it started getting a little darker but I didn’t have a watch or a cell phone to find the time. How big could this lake be? How much further? Check out the link below:

The lake is the city of Raleigh’s water reservoir. It may be one of the biggest in the world? It stretches for miles and miles! So here I am, no cell phone, no idea where I am, and running out of daylight. Bright huh? I finally met someone along the path and I asked him how much further I had before I reached my car. He told me that the path I took was not a loop; it’s a one way 26 mile stretch. I had already been 10 miles (around 4 hours) and the only way to get back to my car was to turn around. It would be long past pitch black before I could get back to my car. The guy was nice enough to offer me a ride but his car was parked about 1.5 hours away. I did survive that day but I couldn’t walk for several after. Lesson learned.
In general, life here is pretty fair. Ever since Mom passed away, I’ve still been pretty depressed. For the first month, all I really felt like doing was sleeping. Things are slowly getting better and some days are better than others but I still can’t believe she’s gone. It just doesn’t seem like its real. I feel like it’s a bad dream and that I should wake up and everything will be back to normal. I guess time heals all but it sure takes a hell of a lot of time and it’s painful. That’s life.
To add fuel to the fire, Meredith and I broke up. We left on very good terms and still talk on occasion. We both felt it was the right thing to do it but it was and still is tough. She was one of those rare people you meet who genuinely cared about and wanted to help others. That and her family, especially her grandma, are the nicest people on the planet. I’ll always miss her innate ability to give great driving directions. If I haven’t told you the “I-40 Bypass” story, it’s guaranteed to make you laugh till you cry.
Alright, enough complaining. The good news is that I’m really looking forward to going skiing in Denver with Denny and some of his friends, February 16-19th! I’ve never been to Denver nor skied out West. Hell, it’ll be good just to get out of Raleigh and hang out with my little bro.
I think Andy is coming up here for a couple days for his Spring Break and Dad mentioned he might stop by as well. I’m excited.
Check out the 2 properties my coworker, Matt and I purchased this year. I didn’t really want to buy them but the seller practically gave them away. We’re trying to sell them right now. It’s not quite; “Flip This House” but I like it. One of the properties had a homeless guy named James doing cocaine and probably much worse in there. Had to let old James go. Interesting guy though. By the way, I’ve been working at Deaton Investment Real Estate for about 1.5 years. It’s hard to believe I’ve been in Raleigh for almost 4 years. Check out the website:

Alright, this email is already too long. I’d love to hear from you and what’s happening in your part of the world.
Take care,
