double wedding ring quilt

Since last october, I have been working on a double wedding ring quilt for a friend whose brother is getting married. Apparently, they have alot of sage green and cream in their living room and the idea is to make a throw that they could use when cuddling on the couch. Almost done really. tried to put the picture up, but couldn’t figure out how. If anyone has any ideas????

English Class

Well, as some of you know I am teaching my chinese work collegues an english class. I am trying very hard but there are a few things that are making it difficult/irritating.
1. they keep speaking chinese during class. If it is something that they can say easily like “your turn” they will speak english, but if it is a challenge and they aren’t sure how to say it, they just say it in Chinese. I figure this is what they need to work through so that they can learn. I spoke to Dr. Pan about this problem and suggested instituting a quarter jar – anytime they speak chinese, during class, they have to put a quarter in the jar. Dr. Pan actually came in during class today and mentioned to the chinese that it is important that they practice english. It is nice that he is getting behind me on this one.

2. poor attendance. not really much to be done about this one, but about 1/2 the class or more sometimes have to go to the power plants. I started the class when it was full, then we had a project and alot of the class was gone for two weeks then they came back. it is difficult to teach them when they are only spuratically present.

3. one of the guys has told the others twice now that it is not necessary to learn english really well. I think Dr. Pan may have asked the guy to stop saying that because he hasn’t said it for a week or more now. Also, this one guy doesn’t always do the work that I have them do in class. he just sits there. I get on him about it usually until he does something

Pregnancy update

Well, Brent says that everyone keeps asking him how my pregnancy is going so I guess I will write about the experience thus far.
So far everything has been going really well. When we first decided to start trying to have a baby, I really didn’t know what to expect. I had heard alot of terrible stories about how some people try for years and can’t get pregnant and I had a cousin that once she got pregnant had alot of problems during the pregnancy. Fortunately, we had no trouble getting pregnant (I guess practice makes perfect) and so far no big pregnancy troubles. I didn’t get morning sickness really. My skin hasn’t broken out, the doctor is always happy with the weight and heart readings they take etc.
I really can’t complain. I am having trouble sleeping due to the whole laying on your side thing. I used to sleep either on my back or my stomach most of the time with my legs straight out. Laying on my side, they are usually bent and it is bothering my knees. putting a pillow between them helps. I am also having breathing trouble. I just went out tonight a bought another bra with an extention. I am hoping that will help. I just feel like I can’t really breathe deeply. I also bought another pair of pants and a few more tops. I also saw a breast pump that I think I would like to try. it is supposed to be hospital quality and has dual positions so you can do both breasts at the same time. I guess I will have 3 months maternity leave to decide on what I need before going back to work.
Pam and are talking about baby showers. We have just about decided on a date of Apr 22nd for the one that she is giving me. my cousin in indiana said that she wanted to throw one for family up there so I will have to get back with her on the date.

Rodney Carrington Night out

this past sat Brent and I braved the extremely rainy weather to venture out to the large town known as Nashville to see a comedian by the name of Rodney Carrington. He is pretty popular, had his own tv show for a while. Brent had purchased the tickets several months ago. We started out by having a nice dinner at Smokey Bones and then got on our way to Nashville. We used the GPS to find our way to TPAC (tennessee performing arts center). Sadly, the GPS program was alittle off so we subsequently got alittle lost in downtown Nashville on a rainy sat night in the middle of what turned out to be a baptist convention (the streets were teaming with people and traffic). After both of us vowed to never live in such a big city, we found a place to park and were subsequently guided to TPAC by a nice man. the show was good, our seats were not too bad, but I still think that I prefer zanies . it is easier to get to, a smaller building so basically all the seats are good and they provide dinner with the show (and its cheaper). Anyways, the act was pretty good. we got outta there at around 9:30 or so and home at around 11:00 I think.

Saving the World one Bulb at a time?

No not really, but Pauline and I decided to give some of the compact fluorescent bulbs from Sam’s Club the other day. We hadn’t really looked much into it, but we had both heard about the pluses to using them in terms of power usage and such.

They aren’t much change really in terms of light and such. We both are happy with them and I found this site that I thought was pretty cool.

http://www.onebillionbulbs.com It is an attempt to get people to change out their bulbs and watch as more and more people change them out.

It also has this saving calculator that I thought was pretty cool.

It’s a lady!

Well technically it is a girl, but someday I am sure that she will be a lady. J I sent everyone that I had cell phone numbers for a text message this morning when I found out. We called some other people too. Some of the less tech endowed people. J

We also got a video of the ultrasound and there is a lot of information in there that I think people might want to see. Mostly it is of the two arms, two legs variety, but it is neat to see as well. There isn’t much in terms of audio though, so I am currently working on an audio track to go with it, but for right now I am just going to post the video out here for anyone that wants to look at it. It is about 86 megs of video encoded into flash. I decided to youtube style it so that it would work for everyone.

Aiming for Signal

I have spent the last few weeks really messing with HD signal in this area. Apparently I am not the only one, since while I was working on it there have been several channels added by the broadcasting networks here. Continue reading

What the Wii Needs

I got a Wii last week and have been playing a lot of the Wii Sports. It is a good time and you would be surprised how much movement you end up doing. If you end up playing it for more than a few minutes you will find that you are sweating and getting pretty hot. Jeff has been coming over and we end up playing it for an hour or two. You are having a good time and getting a little bit of a workout at the same time.

After I got finished playing this morning I had something of an epiphany. What they really need to work on getting out for the Wii is an MMORPG. Everyone always complains about people that are playing them as doing nothing more than sitting around hitting the same button over and over. All they get done is grinding to a level. Well there is no way that you wouldn’t be getting exercise in an MMORPG on the Wii. Every aspect of it could be using the Wiimote and Nunchuck. Fighters would obviously have to use it in battle. Archers can use it too as Zelda shows. Spell casters won’t have as much swinging and stuff, but there is still plenty of movement that could be put in for them. Various designs would have to be drawn on the screen along with specific button presses or directions. Grinding would still be exercise as they would still have to use the Wiimote to perform whatever it is that they are attempting to do. Crafting could utilize the Wiimote as a way to test the person’s real life dexterity instead of just relying on chance and skill levels.

The other thing is that it would also cut down on the people that just spend their whole time in there; because there is no way that you are going to spend six hours jumping around punching and swinging. Even if you did the advantages to you would probably be pretty decent.

Sylvia Browne F’s up again 3

That right folks. Sylvia Browne should really stop going on the Montel Show. I am sure it is helping her book sales now, but it is going to kill her job eventually. They are just getting more and more misses on tape. This one she didn’t even get that the kid was dead right, let alone all the other crap that see missed.

The good news is that it at least made CNN this time. I wonder how many of the people that watch the Montel Show also watch CNN.

Vista Thief

No before you start saying that it is bad for me to steal Vista, I haven’t. We have access to it at work, because the state is a partner with Microsoft. Don’t get me wrong, we still pay for it, but it is a reduced rate per license.

As I have been playing around with it, it is a decent OS, but there are some things that are just too obvious in it as just complete rip offs. They have stolen gadgets from Apple’s Widgets and Google’s gadgets. They even put it in a sidebar like Google did. They stole the search function from OS X and most of the visual effects from it too. The new MS Photo Gallery is just Picasa without the Picasa branding and an AutoFix instead of “I’m feeling lucky”. The new transfer dialog moves away from the “Microsoft Minutes” timer and puts the OS X style transfer up there. To me it just feels like they went for OS X with some Google and Linux thrown in. To me it feels thicker when I am using it too. Like there is a lot of stuff running on my machine and I don’t really know what much of it is, or why it takes up so much memory doing it. 512 megs just doesn’t seem like enough anymore.

I am also working with Office 2007 some and in here it really does feel like they have moved down their own path some. The “Ribbon” style of menus does seem like it will be helpful in finding features in Office. The new blog post feature in Word might actually help me make my posts legible and keep Mom from telling me that I should really proofread what I write. J They might even have trimmed the memory footprint down some, as right now it Word is only taking up 16 megs of memory. I don’t really work with Office too much though, so I am probably not a good judge of its features in terms of usability.

Well let’s see how this post looks when it sends to my journal.
