The Path of the Righteous

This post is passworded to avoid airing people’s dirty laundry on the web.

Tasha, Jeremiah’s wife, called me and said that they were getting a divorce. She said they had been split up since November, which was when she found out that Jeremiah had cheated on her. I’m not really sure what it was exactly that made her decide to call me. I mean it wasn’t like it had just happened and she was wanting me to talk to Jeremiah or that she needed a place to stay or anything really. She didn’t bad mouth him or anything either. I don’t know what it was. Hell, I don’t even know where she got my number from, unless Jeremiah gave it to her.

Anyway, we talked for about half an hour about what was going on and how she had taken the house and was wanting to keep her job up there for right now. We also talked a bit about how her mom was doing (both her kidneys have failed and she is having to take dialysis). She said a couple times how she still loved him, but that she didn’t know if she would be able to take him back even if he did sort things out.

It sounded like she really blamed him for losing faith in God or something and thus becoming open to temptation or some such. She talked about how she thought that Jeremiah had lost direction and that she didn’t think that they should have ever left Kentucky to go back up to Indiana. I thought that was something of an odd statement since it was supposedly both their messages from God that told them to go up there anyway. She ask me to pray for him to sort himself out even though she knew that I didn’t really pray. I think more than anything though that is just a reflex reaction that she has, since she pretty much knows that isn’t my style.

I waited for a day without writing anything or calling Jeremiah, just to let things process out in my head. I called Frank to see if he had talked to Jeremiah in a while, because for a bit they had kinda made a connection. Frank said that he hadn’t and that he couldn’t believe that Jermiah had cheated on Tasha.

So I called Jeremiah a bit later to see what he had to say. I ask him what was going on like I hadn’t talked to Tasha and just let him talk for a minute. He said some stuff about them being seperated and that he had been stupid, but he talked like he was working to correct the problem and that he thought they could get back together. He said that he had been meaning to call me and talk about it, but that he wasn’t ready yet. So I changed the subject and started talking about work. I wasn’t going to pressure him to talk about anything if he didn’t want to. We talked about work for a while and then I told him that when he was ready to talk about it to give me a call. His cell phone has pretty bad signal in his office, so I was getting annoyed with it and was tired of having to deal with it.

This whole thing just continues to piss me off at organized religion. Admittedly, I am not a big fan of it so pushing me farther down the spectrum of hate toward it isn’t a real chore. Almost everything that Jeremiah did while I knew him was based on some vision or feeling he got that he thought was God and most of them turned out badly for him. When he worked at AFNI, they had over $6000 in credit card debit and on his taxes that year he turned in over $2500 in tithes to the church. The church would tell them to fast for a week in order to get closer to God and then lo and behold at the end of the week they would all be having visions of God and such. Gee, imagine that if you don’t eat anything for a week, you start having visions… hmm it couldn’t be because you body is low on calories and is eating itself could it? Tasha has been raised in it her whole life. It is all she knows, so it could never occur to her that perhaps half their problems stem from the fact that their whole lives are directed by hunger visions, random feelings, and whatever the church has told them to do. Granted, I am not saying that the church made Jeremiah go out and have sex with another women, but I don’t think the crazyness that has been their lives can all be attributed to just Jeremiah and his problems. When you have a group who is so decidedly torquing with your mind on a constant basis, I don’t think it can help your mental and emotional state.

FROM P:Anyways, lunch with Tasha was great. she was as wonderful as always to be around, but she seemed really sad. Understandably of course. She didn’t seem to know why he had been unfaithful to her except for her to say that he wasn’t really fulfilled with his job and he didn’t form many strong friends in the new area they were in. That lead to him being unhappy and drawing away from her. So, I think he looked for fulfillment elsewhere and the rest is history. she did say that he was no longer seeing the girl he cheated on her with and now was seeing someone else.
I just felt so bad for her because they had moved there, away from her family and friends because he wanted to go back to school. They got a house together and everything. Now, they will have to sell the house and she might move back down here. I don’t know about that for sure. Anyways, her mother isn’t doing too well either. She has some kind of health problem that effects her kidneys. she has to go for dialysis 3 times a week. So, I guess tasha at least has something else to focus on besides J
